About Us
Haddonfield Public Schools (HPS) have always ranked among the top in the state and the nation. In fact, in 2004 Haddonfield Memorial High School (HMHS) received the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education. HMHS was one of only 32 Public High Schools in the United States to receive this prestigious award.
We've achieved this despite an archaic and unfair state funding system that bases HPS's allotment on property values and per capita income. This outdated system provides inadequate funding far below the state average. For the 2003/2004 school year HPS ranked among the lowest in the state for state funding, our remuneration was less than 2% of our total cost per student. As a result, HPS is the lowest funded school district in Camden County. Without additional funding, HPS will have to make tough decisions that threaten sports, science, music, art programs, class size reduction, health education and technology.
